Dux of the Senior Form was Peter Hopkins; Sub-Senior, Michael Thomas; Junior, Lloyd Heazlewood; and Sub-Junior, Gillian McLean.
Twenty- five students sat for the Senior Public Examination. Ten students continued to the University of Queensland and nine students entered Teachers Training College.
The House Captains were: Bongaree – Mervyn Cobcroft and Lesleigh Anderson; Jindobarri – David Knight and Fay Nicolaus; Murrumba – Arthur O’Keefe and Sandra Garsden; Turrubul – Peter Hopkins and Lynette Dellit. In the Athletics Carnival, Turrubul House won narrowly from Jindobarri and at the Brisbane Athletics Carnival the boys were placed eighth and the girls seventh.
The Choral Society produced “The Pirates of Penzance” under the capable guidance of Mrs Hopkins, producer, and Miss Meehan, pianist. Two casts were selected, comprising twenty principals. David Evans and Jan Van Barneveld played the part of the hero, Fred, while Wendy Graham and Barbara Ellis played the part of the heroine, Mabel.
The Debating Society entered three speakers in the “Youth Speaks for Australia” contest. Hugh Botting came first in the Redcliffe District Finals.
The school’s first cadet corps, Number 4 Flight A.T.C. was formed early in the year with 50 raw recruits. The highlight of the year’s training was an Annual Camp of 10 days at Amberley.
For the first time the school entered in the Brisbane State Secondary Schools fixtures with successes in Hockey, Rugby League Football and Basketball. In the Boys’ Open Hockey Grand Final, Redcliffe defeated Kedron by 3 goals to nil for the premiership pennant. Three players from this team were selected in the Brisbane Representative Team that played Ipswich at Ipswich and the Queensland University’s Touring Team at St. Lucia. They were Henry Drake (Captain), Lindsay Collins and Terry Mallon. In girls’ hockey, team captain, Lyn Dellit, was chosen in the Brisbane Schoolgirls “A” team to play in the Queensland Secondary Schoolgirls’ Hockey Carnival at Rockhampton.
